Our Evolution

From Startup to Accelerator + VC:

Pygma’s journey is a testament to our relentless pursuit of excellence and our deep commitment to empowering Latinx tech founders. We began as a startup ourselves, facing the challenges and triumphs that every founder knows too well. This experience shaped our understanding of founders' needs and guided us in building an ecosystem designed to support their success.

2021:

Pygma was established through a merger between Buildup Camp, a startup academy based in the Netherlands, and Acanof, a data-driven accelerator from Latin America, complemented by the acquisition of the micro-fund, Scala.

2022:

We launched our Equity-Free Program, driven by the goal of truly understanding what founders need to thrive. This program laid the groundwork for our next steps, allowing us to connect deeply with early-stage startups.

2023:

Building on this foundation, we introduced the 1% Equity Program, which, despite not offering cash in hand, opened doors for startups to access valuable deal flow in LatAm. This year marked a significant shift as we solidified our role as not just mentors, but partners in the growth journey of Latinx founders.

2024:

This year represents a pivotal moment in our evolution. We've expanded our reach, particularly into the US, with a sector-specific approach through our Industry-Focused Program. We’ve transitioned from being just an accelerator to also establishing ourselves as a venture capital firm.
